“…The partition coefficient between ILs and water varies with the change of pH, offering the possibility of separation and enrichment of heavy metals as well as recovery from the IL medium and subsequent reuse. The removal efficiency of heavy metals such as cadmium, copper, and zinc by ILs reaches 90% to 99% [ 4 ]. In 2003, Wei et al [ 5 ] successfully extracted Hg 2+ , Pb 2+ , and Cd 2+ , from the aqueous phase into 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate using dithizone as the chelating agent.…”

“…In membrane technology, because of their ability and durability to form membranes, poly-ionic liquids can be used. Magnetic ILs are characterized by paramagnetic properties, and easy dispersion in solutions [ 3 , 4 ]. ILs’ applications have a multidisciplinary character.…”

“…Based on the principles of green chemistry, some ILs are regarded as excellent green solvents. The chief characteristic features of ILs include nonflammability, high electrochemical stability, high solubility in polymers, appreciable chemical stabilities, uniform interfacial ion arrangements, high thermal stabilities, and low toxicities, volatilities, flammabilities, and vapor pressures. Systematic synthesis using appropriate combinations of anions and cations has resulted in the syntheses of numerous ILs with different solvation powers, densities, conductivities, melting points, viscosities, polarities, acid and base characteristics, and hydrophobicities and hydrophilicities. Because of their polarities, some ILs are immiscible with most organic liquids, which makes them candidates for investigations on the phase transition and self-assembly behaviors of polymers and block copolymers.…”
