IRI Performance Models for Flexible Pavements in Two-Lane Roads until First Maintenance and/or Rehabilitation Work

Abstract: Pavement performance models play a vital role in any pavement management system. The Regional Government of Biscay (RGB) (Spain) manages a 1200 km road network and conducts pavement data collections, including the International Roughness Index (IRI) values. The aim of the paper is to develop an IRI performance model for two-lane roads with flexible pavement until the first maintenance and/or rehabilitation activity is performed. Due to the huge amount of available information, a deterministic model was selecte… Show more

“…In 2011, this segment of the LR-124 had an Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) of 2 043 vehicles/day with a percentage of heavy traffic of 7,42% (MFOM, 2012). In Spain, a vehicle is considered to be heavy when its total weight is over 3 500 kg (MFOM, 2003;Pérez-Acebo, Linares-Unamunzaga, and Gonzalo-Orden, 2020). The last available data showed an AADT of 2 390 and 2 457 vehicles in 2015 and 2016, respectively, with 8,7% of heavy vehicles in both years (MFOM, 2016(MFOM, , 2017.…”

“…Additionally, the individual significance of each coefficient and the intercept was tested by the Student's t-test if a p-value < 0.05 is obtained. Furthermore, if a linear regression model is adopted, some hypotheses that are assumed must be verified [58][59][60][61][62][63][64]: a linear relationship (checked by the high Pearson coefficient between variables, R), the independence of the observations (certified by the Durbin-Watson statistic near the range 1.5-2.5); the homoscedasticity (evaluated by the absence of any pattern in a plot of the standardized predicted values vs. standardized residuals), and errors are normally distributed (checked by a Shapiro-Wilk normality test).…”

“…The pavement age is the usual factor employed in roughness modeling [41]. The Laos RMS database provides a survey date for IRI inspection and last maintenance activity type and application date.…”
