Iron Loss Characteristics of Electrical Steel Sheet under Inverter Excitation by Power Semiconductor with Extremely Low On‐Voltage Property

Abstract: SUMMARYIn this study, it is demonstrated that the iron loss from the SiC-MOSFET, which represents a new power semiconductor with an extremely low on-voltage for electric machine drives, is almost the same as that from an Si-IGBT, which is a conventional power semiconductor. In order to evaluate the iron loss characteristics when an SiC device is used, two single-phase pulse width modulation inverters were built and used for the excitation of a ring made up of electrical steel sheet. One of the inverter employe… Show more

“…And then, when the switch on the low-side of the inverter is off, the current flows into the diode on the high-side of the inverter. In this time, the load (ring) is affected by V on which is the sum of the V S and the V D (voltage of the diode) (6) (7) .…”

“…When the magnetic characteristics of a certain material are evaluated by PWM converter excitation, the high frequency harmonics, induced by the switching properties of the converter, greatly affects the iron loss characteristics [10]- [12]. In addition, when a magnetic properties characterization procedure of a magnetic material under high frequency excitation (hundreds or thousands of kHz) is conducted, the measurement technique as well as the measurement devices become decisive to obtain an accurate measurement [13], [14].…”
