“…On the other hand, total cotton production reached 978 tons, an amount 320% higher than that of the 2015/2016 season. This is a response to the irrigated cotton area increase and because of the use of irrigation technology, as it is stated by Almeida et al (2015), the use of irrigation and soil cover increase the graviola production in Brazil, and yields of beans and corn in 54,5% and 237,3% (Brito et al, 2012). Table 2 shows the details of cotton production from the 2015/2016 campaign to the estimate for 2019/2020.…”

“…The cultivation of sweet potatoes is one of the most important vegetable crop for family farmers in the micro-region of Catolé do Rocha-PB and your production tuberous root is negatively affected by water stress, with greater intensity in semiarid regions, according verified by Saqib et al (2017), after irrigating the crop with water blades equivalent to 60, 80, 100, and 120% of its water requirement. Almeida et al (2015) and Cui et al (2020) concluded that the water deficit inhibits crop photosynthesis, growth and production. This situation expresses the dependence of agricultural production systems on irrigation, in the semiarid world, and requires the adoption of water management strategies in order to obtain sustainable agricultural yields to guarantee food availability, given the growing global concern (SOUZA et al, 2016;DELZARI et al, 2017;EL-FOTOH et al, 2019).…”

“…Among the soursops exploited in Brazil, the cultivar 'Morada Nova' has stood out due to its easy adaptation to the most diverse types of soil and for being able to produce more than 40 kg of pulp per year. Currently, the Northeast region in Brazil stands out as the largest producer of this fruit crop, especially the states of Bahia, Alagoas, Ceará, Paraíba and Pernambuco (São José et al, 2014;Almeida et al, 2015). This region has scarce rainfall and high evaporation rates, naturally causing a water deficit which limits the growth and production of crops under natural conditions, i.e., rational agricultural exploitation is only possible using irrigation; however, the waters available for irrigation in these regions are not always of good quality, causing the use of saline waters to become a reality, characterizing a problem that affects the economy of the region, the society and the environment (Medeiros et al, 2012;Nascimento et al, 2017).…”
