Considering the lack of technical information on the water depth and nitrogen fertilization via fertigation in bell pepper cultivation, this work aimed to provide management data for its production in the northern region of Brazil. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse at FEIGA / UFRA, with a 1.0 x 0.50 m spacing, in a randomized block design, with a 5 x 4 factorial scheme, with three replications. The treatments consisted of five water tensions in the soil (15, 25, 35, 45 and 65 kPa) and four nitrogen doses (0, 135, 265 and 395 kg.ha-1). There was no interaction between the factors of water tension in the soil and nitrogen doses for any of the variables analyzed. Height of plants, fresh shoot mass and dry shoot mass showed significant differences only for nitrogen doses. Predawn potential, showed significant difference for soil water tensions and nitrogen doses. Ahead of the conditions under which this work was carried out and the results obtained for the variables analyzed for the bell pepper cultivation in a protected environment, we found that the soil water tension of 15 kPa and the nitrogen dose of 265 kg.ha-1 were ideal for the crop.

RESUMOObjetivou-se, neste trabalho, avaliar as tensões de água no solo em duas fases fenológicas (vegetativa e reprodutiva) da cultura da pimenta Cayenne, cultivada em ambiente protegido e irrigada por gotejamento. Foram instalados dois experimentos utilizando-se um delineamento inteiramente casualizado cujos tratamentos foram definidos por quatro tensões de água no solo (20, 40, 60 e 120 kPa) e quatro repetições. Os maiores valores de massa média de frutos por planta foram obtidos para a tensão de 20 kPa, sendo 1936,83 e 2091,59 g por planta e os coeficientes de rendimento obtidos foram 0,81 e 1,01, para as fases vegetativa e reprodutiva, respectivamente. Com base nos resultados apresentados concluiu-se que: a produtividade da cultura apresentou comportamento inversamente proporcional à tensão de água no solo e a tensão de 20 kPa mostrou-se mais adequada para promover as irrigações nas fases estudadas. Os coeficientes de rendimento identificaram a fase reprodutiva como a mais sensível ao deficit hídrico. A completely randomized design was used, using four soil water tensions (20, 40, 60 e 120 kPa) as treatments with four replications, in two experiments (1 e 2), related to the phenological stages (vegetative and reproductive), respectively. The higher values of fruits mean weight per plant were obtained with 20 kPa soil water tension, being 1,936.83 and 2,091.59 g plant -1 and the yield coefficients obtained were 0.81 and 1.01, for vegetative and reproductive stages, respectively. It was concluded that the crop yield presented inversely proportional behavior to the soil water tension, and the 20 kPa tension showed most appropriate to promote the irrigation on the studied stages. The yield coefficients identified the reproductive stage as the most sensitive to the water stress.

Resumo: A pimenta é uma olerícola importante na agricultura brasileira, tendo em vista o seu vasto uso culinário. Para que a cultura estudada se desenvolva satisfatoriamente é necessário o manejo adequado da irrigação. Com base na importância dessa cultura, objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar o efeito de lâminas de irrigação nos componentes de produção de duas espécies de pimenta do gênero Capsicum. O experimento foi desenvolvido em condições de campo, na fazenda do CEUNES/UFES, em São Mateus, no Espírito Santo, Brasil. Empregou-se o delineamento experimental em blocos inteiramente casualizados, em parcela subdividida, com quatro repetições. As parcelas consistiram de cinco lâminas de irrigação, correspondendo a 40%, 70%, 100%, 130%, 160% da evapotranspiração de referência (ETo) de Penman Monteith (FAO 56). Nas subparcelas foram avaliadas duas espécies de pimenta, sendo: Capsicum baccatum, da variedade Dedo-de-Moça, e a Capsicum chinense, da variedade De Cheiro. Avaliou-se a produtividade, a massa média, o diâmetro médio, bem como o comprimento dos frutos. As lâminas de irrigação apresentaram efeitos apenas para a produtividade e para a massa média dos frutos de pimenteira. Os componentes de produção da pimenta de 'De Cheiro' foram superiores aos do 'Dedo-de-Moça', para as condições edafoclimáticas de São Mateus-ES.Palavras-chave: Capsicum baccatum. Capsicum chinense. For satisfactory crop development, suitable irrigation management is necessary. Based on the importance of this crop, the aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of irrigation depths on the production components of two species of pepper of the genus Capsicum. The experiment was carried out under field conditions on a farm of CEUNES/ UFES in São Mateus, in the State of Espirito Santo, Brazil (ES). The experimental design was completely randomised into blocks of split lots, having five lots, two sub-lots and four replications. The lots comprised the irrigation depths of 40%, 70%, 100%, 130% and 160% of the Penman Monteith reference evapotranspiration (ETo) (FAO 56). In the sub-lots, two species of pepper were evaluated (the Lady's Finger variety of Capsicum baccatum, and the Yellow Lantern variety of Capsicum chinense) employing drip irrigation. Under evaluation were productivity, average weight, average diameter and fruit length. Irrigation depth affected productivity and average fruit weight only. For the soil and climate conditions of São Mateus, ES, the production components of the Yellow Lantern pepper were higher than those of the Lady's Finger.
