Is it possible to measure social and occupational functioning in a CMHT?

Abstract: Many people with psychiatric disorders are unable to find suitable employment or adequate support to maintain it. The MINI ICF‐APP allows for focused monitoring of areas where support is needed. The authors assessed the usability, acceptability and usefulness of the MINI ICF‐APP within a community mental health team to establish whether this instrument really can improve identification and the targeting of evidence‐based employment interventions for those with psychiatric disorders.

“…The mini-ICF-APP severity cut-off points we propose for the mini-ICF-APP are roughly comparable with the values reported in previous studies [1618, 21, 36]. A direct contrast is however not possible, since the approach to severity assessment differs; with either different gradings of severity [36]; gross allocation of severity grades to mini-ICF-APP values [16, 18]; or the use of psychosocial attributes of severity [17, 21]. Our findings regarding the percentage change are in line with previous findings using the mini-ICF-APP to assess the effectiveness of treatment [14].…”

“…For example, "mobility and traveling" usually did not pose any problems for them, whereas "close (intimate) dyadic relationships" were most frequently assessed as difficult and limiting/restricting. The above-mentioned premises point to the feasibility of the scale in clinical applications, as indicated by Rowland et al [16] based on a thorough pilot study in relation to the tasks of the British Community Mental Health Center.…”

“…Wyliczone przesłanki wskazują na praktyczność skali w zastosowaniu klinicznym, na co na podstawie starannego badania pilotażowego wskazują Rowland i wsp. [16] w odniesieniu do zadań brytyjskich CMHC (Community Mental Health Centre).…”
