Determining the Perceptions of Fine Arts High School Music Department Students About the Concept of Instrument Training Through the Word Association Test

This study aims to determine the perceptions of fine arts high school music department students about the concept of "instrument training" through an alternative measurement and evaluation technique "Word Association Test (WAT)". In this study, the survey model, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The study group of the research consisted of 110 students studying at Nevit Kodallı Fine Arts High School Music Department in the 2021-2022 academic year. The data were obtained by applying the "Word Association Test (WAT)". Firstly, WAT was explained for informative purposes during the application. Then, the students were asked to write the first 5 words that they thought were related to the key concept of "instrument training" within 1 minute. Afterwards, they were asked to make a sentence related to these answer words. The obtained answer words were analysed by content analysis technique. As a result of the analysis, the answer words that the students associated with the key concept of "instrument training" were grouped under 9 categories (teaching materials, performance anxiety, motivation for the instrument, social skills, attitude towards the instrument, technical skills, student capacity, education and training). According to the order of these categories, the most frequently associated answer words with instrument education were instrument, etude, excitement, working, cooperation, happiness, note, talent and teacher. Under the category of performance anxiety and motivation related to the instrument, the students showed a negative distribution on the word "tiring". It was observed that the students had a positive cognitive structure in all categories.

Bu araştırmada, Gagne'nin Öğretim Kuramı temelinde yer alan dokuz öğretim olayına göre planlanarak işbirlikli öğrenme yöntemiyle yapılan piyano derslerinin işleyişinin ve bu yönteme yönelik öğrencilerin görüşlerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmada, işbirlikli öğrenme yöntemlerinden birlikte öğrenme tekniği kullanılmıştır.Araştırmada nitel araştırma desenlerinden eylem araştırması modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırmacı bu süreçte hem dersin öğretim elemanı hem de araştırmacı olarak rol oynamıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubu, Marmara Üniversitesi Atatürk Eğitim Fakültesi Müzik Eğitimi Ana Bilim Dalında öğrenim gören 5 kız öğrenciden oluşmuştur. Araştırmada veriler, öz ve akran değerlendirme formları, performans değerlendirme formu, açık uçlu anket soruları ile toplanmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen belli başlı sonuçlar şunlardır: (a) Gagne'nin dokuz öğretim olayına göre planlanarak yürütülen piyano derslerinde kullanılan işbirlikli öğrenme yöntemlerinden birlikte öğrenme tekniğinin işleyişi başarıyla gerçekleşmiştir. (b) Piyano derslerinin işbirlikli öğrenme yöntemiyle yürütülmesi, öğrencilerin birbirlerinin öğrenmesi için gayret göstererek olumlu bağlılık geliştirmelerine sebep olmuştur. (c) Sürekli paylaşım içinde olan öğrenciler birbirlerini çalışmaya yönelik olarak motive etmişlerdir. (d) Yüz yüze destekleyici etkileşim içinde olmalarını sağlayan bu çalışma yapısı öğrencilerin sürekli iletişim içinde olmalarını gerektirdiğinden dolayı sosyal becerilerinde de gelişme sağlamıştır. (e) Derslerde yapılan öz ve akran değerlendirmeleri grup sürecine yansımaya neden olarak kendi öğrenmelerinin yolları ve niteliği üzerine düşünmelerini ve bilişsel öğrenmeleri ile ilgili kararlar almalarını sağlamıştır.

Supporting Concept Teaching with Activities in Primary School Third Grade Life Science Course

This research aims to support the "teaching of concepts" in the 3rd grade Life Science Course with activities. A quasi-experimental design (selective) with a pre-test and post-test control group, one of the quantitative research designs, was used in the research. Using songs, poems, rhymes, acrostics, stories, fairy tales, riddles/puzzles, animations, and traditional children's games, the experimental group's success in acquiring certain concepts from the third-grade life science course was enhanced by developing and implementing the above activities. Research data were collected with the "Concept Achievement Test" developed by the researcher by quantitative research data collection techniques. In the data analysis, arithmetic means were used to determine the academic success of the experimental and control groups. The Independent Sample t-Test was used for comparisons between groups. As a result of the research, there was a considerable achievement gap between the experimental and control groups, with the experimental group performing significantly better. According to these results, activities structured with songs, poems, nursery rhymes, acrostics, stories, fairy tales, puzzles/riddles, animations, and traditional children's games significantly impact student success in teaching concepts in third-grade elementary school biology classes. These activities apparently increase student success rates and are useful in this regard.
