Isokinetic Testing in Evaluation Rehabilitation Outcome After ACL Reconstruction

Abstract: Introduction:Numerous rehab protocols have been used in rehabilitation after ACL reconstruction. Isokinetic testing is an objective way to evaluate dynamic stability of the knee joint that estimates the quality of rehabilitation outcome after ACL reconstruction. Our investigation goal was to show importance of isokinetic testing in evaluation thigh muscle strength in patients which underwent ACL reconstruction and rehabilitation protocol.Subjects and methods:In prospective study, we evaluated 40 subjects which… Show more

“…To measure knee strength at 60º/sec, participants performed five consecutive concentric contractions. 19 All subjects began testing on their uninjured side followed by the injured side and the average of the five trials for each side was normalized to body weight and used for data analysis.…”

“… 20 Strength and power are important determinants of return to play in athletes, as strength deficits in knee extension and flexion lead to unnecessary stress on the ACL. 22 , 38 , 40 Therefore, isokinetic strength testing is an important aspect of the evaluation of the physical capacities in athletes, 7 as power depends heavily on maximal strength. 42 In addition, isokinetic testing is used in decision making regarding return to sports after ACLR 1 , 30 both in athletes and in the lay population.…”
