“…It may be due to the presence of some bioactive compound in this fraction that effectively reduced the glucose metabolism. These results were similar to the previous report of the antidiabetic activity of Ocimum sanctum fraction by Patil et al (2011). α-glucosidase and α-amylase suppressors can extend the processes along the intestine, the time taken for carbohydrate absorption is prolonged, and blood glucose concentrations are decreased over the time curve (Hanefeld et al 2004).…”

“…Since lipid abnormalities accompanying with premature atherosclerosis is the major cause of cardiovascular diseases in diabetic patients, therefore ideal treatment for diabetes, in addition to glycemic control, should have a favorable effect on lipid profile. Cardiovascular diseases are listed as the cause of death in 65% people suffering from diabetes [26][27][28][29][30][31] . From this point of view, it is encouraging that the 15 day treatment of SC methanol extract brought down the elevated level of lipid profile such as total cholesterol, triglycerides to near normal level.…”

“…Triterpenes are reported having anti-inflammatory activity. Similarly, these compounds are reported to be antioxidant (Fiorentino et al, 2007), antiparasitic (Danelli et al, 2009), antiviral (Kuo et al, 2009;Zhu et al, 2014), antifungal (Yuan et al, 2009), antibacterial (Yuan et al, 2009), antitumor, (Chen et al, 2010;Gordaliza, 2010;Kuo et al, 2009), antidiabetic (Castellano et al, 2013;Nazaruk and Borzym-Kluczyk, 2015;Patil et al 2011), antiulcerogenic (de Andrade et al, 2008, hepatoprotective (Li et al, 2017;H. Wu et al, 2016), neuroprotective (Koneri et al, 2014), analgesic (Nieto et al, 2013C.-R. Wu et al, 2010) etc.…”
