Isolation and Characterization of Mycoplasma mycoides Subspecies capri from Milk of Natural Goat Mastitis Cases

Abstract: Association of Mycoplasma mycoides subspecies capri (Mmc) with natural goat mastitis has been studied earlier largely by detecting the Mmc DNA using molecular methods. However, report on detection of cultivable Mmc isolates from natural goat-mastitis milk is still very rare. In this study, Mmc was isolated from milk samples (n = 171) of goats with or without clinical signs of mastitis. Mmc isolates were further characterized by biochemical and species-specific PCR methods. Intra species strain variation was al… Show more

“…This indicates and confirms the presence of Mycoplasma infection in Chongqing area. Moreover, the isolation rate (5.9%) was found to be in agreement with Kumar et al (14,15); however, our isolation rate seems to be quite low in contrast to the 25% -71% obtained by Gil et al (10).…”

“…Mmc and Mcc are reported to cause a pattern of disease called contagious agalactia syndrome (CA) including mastitis, arthritis, pulmonary diseases, and septicaemia especially in goats (25,26,29). All three caprine pathogens can be identified and distinguished by both PCR and biochemical characterisation of their different nucleotide sequences and biochemical activity (14,15,19).…”

“…A number of mycoplasma have been reported as cause of mycoplasmosis in sheep and goats in India causing various diseases (Thiaucourt & Bolske, 1996;Kumar et al, 2013;Chakraborty et al, 2014;Jain et al, 2015). Mycoplasma mycoides cluster group have five species as important pathogens for small ruminants (Nicholas et al, 2009;Chakraborty et al, 2014 (MansoSilván et al, 2009;Kumar et al, 2013;Chakraborty et al, 2014).…”

“…Although ARDRA analysis of the 16S-23S rDNA does not seem to have potential for intraspecific differentiation of S. aureus, it was a rapid and technically relatively simple method to recognize other bacterial strains as Mycoplasma mycoides (KUMAR et al, 2013) and other bacteria (DOBNER et al, 1996;ROTH et al, 2000;JENG et al, 2001;BORSODI et al, 2015;ÖZTÜRK;METERELLIYÖZ, 2015). ARDRA has been previously used to detect intraspecific variation among high-level gentamicin-resistant enterococci (Enterococcus faecalis) (INGIANNI et al, 1997).…”
