Isotherms for Water Adsorption on Molecular Sieve 3A: Influence of Cation Composition

Abstract: This work is part of our continuing efforts to address engineering issues related to the removal of tritiated water from off-gases produced in used nuclear fuel reprocessing facilities. In the current study, adsorption equilibrium of water on molecular sieve 3A beads was investigated. Adsorption isotherms for water on the UOP molecular sieve 3A were measured by a continuous-flow adsorption system at 298, 313, 333, and 353 K. Experimental data collected were analyzed by the Generalized Statistical Thermodynamic… Show more

“…The adsorption of water vapor on commercial MS3A zeolite adsorbents has a potential use for the capture of tritiated water (HHO) from the off‐gas stream of nuclear fuel reprocessing facilities . A prior study of the kinetics of water vapor on MS3A had utilized various simple kinetic models, such as linear driving force and shrinking core models .…”

“…For the work considered here, the Generalized Statistical Thermodynamic Adsorption (GSTA) isotherm model was chosen as the equilibrium model. This isotherm is very flexible and has been shown to be useful at describing the adsorption equilibrium of many different systems . Additionally, this model has also been used in mixed‐gas adsorption equilibrium models with great success .…”

“…In literature, between 2 and 7 (Gabruś et al 2015;Llano-Restrepo and Mosquera 2009;Ladshaw et al 2015;Wang 2020;Loughlin 2009;Lin et al 2015) different energetic sites have been proposed for water adsorption on LTA zeolites. Clearly, the LTA framework consists of two distinct cavities which are accessible to water, the α and β cages (Breck et al 1956;Reed and Breck 1956).…”
