Nationalism is an attitude of awareness to achieve, maintain the identity, integrity, prosperity, and strength of the nation. Nationalism issues are always hotly discussed in the media. The freedom of the mass media now allows users to respond to issues of nationalism and prioritize group interests. This study aims to describe the representation of nationalism in informal communication in the form of debates on the article media through interactive discourse based on the signs and meanings of the respondent through semiotic analysis. This research is focused on linguistic data in the form of contentious texts an interactive discourse on the internet media on the issue of nationalism with the theme of rejecting the Criminal RUU KUHP in Indonesia. The method used is the case study method with a grounded theory approach. Semiotic analysis in this study refers to the theory of Peirce and Organon from Karl Buhler. The findings of this research that the issue of nationalism that rolled out by the media gets pros and cons responses from the respondent based on group truth and interaction patterns tend to be anarchist. The issue of nationalism rejecting the Criminal RUU KUHP was responded to by the question because it felt contrary to the truth of the group. Based on these findings, the representation of nationalism an interactive discourse on internet media tends to be one-sided. The responders no longer think in their entirety to uphold the integrity of the nation but are influenced by the interests of the group.

Since early 2021, Indonesia is one of the affected countries of Covid 19 pandemic. The rapidly and highly spread of this virus forces people to have some changes of way of life. In the middle of March, Indonesian government makes policy of implementing PSBB (large-scale social restriction) instead of district-quarantine due to some considerations. In fact, that policy still has no clear and firm regulation, thus there are still many people interact to each other freely. As a consequence of that phenomenon, the infected patients of Covid 19 are increasingly risen. It obviously makes doctors and medices are overwhelmed and exhausted. To support them and to respond to government policy, some creative people create memes as the reaction to the government in handling Covid 19. Memes of Covid 19 issues in Instagram are used as the data of this research. The objectives are to investigate the sign and meaning through semiotics-pragmatics approach, freedom of expressing, and criticizing. To sum up, this research examines how the symbol, content, and comment as the critics to the government policy. This research can be explained that government policy in handling covid 19 as the symbol. Memes as the reaction of people whether they are pros or cons to the policy. In conclusion, memes can be considered as a tool to express, argue, and criticize the government policy in handling Covid 19. Lastly, the research findings show how the freedom of expressing, commenting, and criticizing government policies as the advancement of cyber digital democracy.

The development of the internet world is now increasingly widespread and diverse. Information can be immediately obtained. For example, meme content is distributed via social media accounts. Memes are a form of creative ideas that are packed with graphic design and often contain insinuations about something. The purpose of this study is to uncover the signified and signifier, and speeches that appear in memes that are circulating on Fakartun Instagram account regarding the disappointment with the House of Representatives (DPR). Following a student rally in the courtyard of the DPR, concerning to the rejection of the revision of the Organization Statue of the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi - KPK) and the Indonesian Criminal Code (UU KUHP), various responses emerged on social media platforms. In particular, electronic graphic designs spread from one person to another through social media platforms such as Instagram. These memes represent some people’s anxiety about the revised bills. This study relies on Roland Barthes’s semiotic approach which is the development of Ferdinand De Saussure’s semiotic theory and the illocutionary act of Searl. The results of this study suggest that the memes merged as a form of reaction to the disappointment of citizens over the revision of the bills.
