Iterative Excretion of Human Cosaviruses from Different Genotypes Associated with Combined Immunodeficiency Disorder

Abstract: Background: Human cosaviruses (HCoSVs) are newly discovered enteric viruses in the Picornaviridae family. They have been described in non-polio acute flaccid paralysis, diarrheal patients, and healthy individuals. They remain rarely documented in immunodeficient patients. Objectives: This study reports iterative excretion of HCoSVs in a patient with major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II combined immunodeficiency, a relatively common primary immunodeficiency in consanguineous settings. Methods: A tota… Show more

“…It was expected that prolonged carriage of SARS-CoV-2 is possible such as in the case of viruses belonging to the family of Picornaviridae: poliovirus [ 133 ], non-polio enteroviruses [ 134 , 135 ] and cosavirus [ 136 ]. Data reported shedding of infectious SARS-CoV-2 and genomic RNA by PID occurred for many months [ 137 ].…”

“…1,12 In general, there are many literature studies around the world which have been documented prevalence of HCosV in variety age groups especially among pediatric patients, and in immunocompromised patients as well as in environmental polluted samples such as untreated wastewater. 10,12,[17][18][19] However, HCosV has also detected in stool samples of healthy children. 3 Here, we tested 160 CSF samples obtained from pediatric patients with aseptic meningitis and encephalitis who were under 5 years of age and were presented to Karaj hospital in Iran.…”
