Joint ―X and R Charts with Two‐stage Samplings

Abstract: When jointX and R charts are in use, samples of fixed size are regularly taken from the process, and their means and ranges are plotted on theX and R charts, respectively. In this article, jointX and R charts have been used for monitoring continuous production processes. The sampling is performed, in two stages. During the first stage, one item of the sample is inspected and, depending on the result, the sampling is interrupted if the process is found to be in control; otherwise, it goes on to the second stage… Show more

“…For instance, Costa and Rahim 25,26 and Rahim and Costa 27 developed economic models for jointX and R charts. Gan 28 considered joint EWMA charts; Albin et al 29 studied an X chart and an EWMA chart for individual observations.…”

“…Gan 15 and Holmes and Mergen 16 study a joint EWMA using an elliptical and acceptance charts, respectively. Costa and Rahim 17 suggested a chart, which is in accordance with max-EWMA scheme using non-central chi-squared statistic for bilateral processes. The idea of Chen et al 13 was extended by Costa and Rahim 18 .…”

“…Considerable efforts have already been undertaken in the research of the statistical properties of the adaptive Shewhart charts with Variable Sampling Interval (VSI) (Reynolds, 1996;Runger & Montgomery, 1993); with Variable Sample Size (VSS) (Prabhu, Runger, Keats & Croasdale, 1993;Costa, 1994;Costa & Rahim, 2004), and with the Variable Sampling Interval and Variable Sample Size (VSSI) (Costa, 1997(Costa, , 1998a, 1999 a/b/c; Carot, Jabaloyes & Carot, 2002). Another alternative used to improve the performance of the traditional Shewhart charts is the Double Sampling (DS) procedure (Croasdale, 1974;Daudin, 1992).…”
