Joint resource allocation and interference avoidance with fairness consideration for multi-cell cognitive radio networks

Abstract: This paper presents a joint resource allocation and interference avoidance algorithm for uplink transmissions in a multi-cell cognitive radio network (CRN), which overlays with a multi-cell primary network (PN). We consider a primary willingness based coexistent architecture. Primary base stations will broadcast pilot signals and interference margins to the CRN for interference channel evaluation and power control. The objective of the algorithm is to maximize the sum rate of cognitive radio cells without caus… Show more

“…There are several techniques to solve interference problems for UDN such as Interference Avoidance techniques [4][5][6][7], Interference Cancellation techniques [8][9][10], and Interference Coordination techniques [11][12][13]. The fundamental idea of Interference Avoidance technique is to divide the available resources into orthogonal proportions in several dimensions such as time, frequency, space, power, code, etc.…”

“…In [10], a resource allocation scheme was proposed to maximize the total data rate of cognitive small cells without causing intolerable interference to macrocell users, in which femtocell user equipments (FUEs) could estimate the interference channel through the pilot signals broadcasted by macrocell base station (MBS). Moreover, the proposed algorithm could ensure the fairness with only a tiny reduction in throughput performance.…”

“…Based on the aforementioned solutions, jointly considered subchannel allocation and power allocation are a proper way to solve resource allocation problems. The objectives of resource allocation mainly focus on interference management [9,10,12,13,[19][20][21][22], capacity enhancement [8,10,13,15,[20][21][22], power efficiency improvement [15,16,19], and fairness [10,12]. However, to the best of our knowledge, resource allocation for cognitive femtocell network jointly considering interference management, fairness, imperfect spectrum sensing, and interference uncertainty has not been studied in previous works.…”
