Joint thrust and TMD resummation in electron-positron and electron-proton collisions

Abstract: We present the framework for obtaining precise predictions for the transverse momentum of hadrons with respect to the thrust axis in e+e− collisions. This will enable a precise extraction of transverse momentum dependent (TMD) fragmentation functions from a recent measurement by the Belle Collaboration. Our analysis takes into account, for the first time, the nontrivial interplay between the hadron transverse momentum and the cut on the thrust event shape. To this end, we identify three different kinematic reg… Show more

“…In this regard, shortly after the publication of this work, the transverse momentum spectrum of single-hadron production in e + e − has been investigated in two papers, Refs. [29,30], both based on a SCET treatment. In this framework, all soft/collinear contributions appear explicitly in the final cross section, in contrast to Eq.…”

“…One could claim that this is a symptom of nonconsistency of the corresponding factorization theorem (see for instance ref. [18]). We do not interpret this as a failure of the factorization itself, but rather as a limit of the Collins factorization formalism in this particular process.…”

“…This is one of the measurements which go closer to being a direct observation of a partonic variable, the transverse momentum of the hadron with respect to its parent fragmenting parton. As such, it has indeed triggered a great interest of the high energy physics community, especially among the experts in the phenomenological study of TMD phenomena and factorization [11,12,[14][15][16][17][18][19]. In this paper, we apply the Collins factorization formalism to such a QCD process and we show how to properly factorize it in each of the kinematic region in which it can occur.…”
