Kantasaamen *-(e̮)hče̮-frekventatiivijohtimen edustuksesta nykyisissä saamelaiskielissä

Abstract: A survey of Saami *-(e̮)hče̮ frequentative verbs is made based on dictionary data from all Saami languages. The analysis of their base verbs shows that in most of the languages, the frequentative derivatives are not restricted to *ē-stem bases as in North Saami; specifically in Skolt and Kildin Saami, the derivational type seems to be productive on *e̮- and *ō-stems as well.

The previous articles covered the two morphologically and functionally most clearly definable types.…”

“…), nahkat, nagadit 'to manage (to)' has the synonym nahkášit with apparent cognates in S nahkasjidh, U nahkkásjit ~ nahkkáhit id., and an etymologically obscure agentive verb huigášit 'to advise not to do something'. The others are probably late analogical coinages related to the -oš-verb type or the frequentative -(a)š-type (see Koponen & Kuokkala 2021), but nahkášit could also possibly be a relict spared from the verb-type merger due to its differing semantics and association to the more agentive -š-verbs. Finally, there is N heahppášit 'to scold, to tell someone to be ashamed of themselves', which is probably a borrowing from I hiäˈ p ášiđ 'to bring shame upon', a verb belonging to the weak-grade verb type (see Section 4) and an obvious loan from Fi häpäistä id.…”

“…Nielsenin sanakirjan pohjalta laaditussa pohjoissaamen käänteissanaluettelossa (Sammallahti 2002: 248-249) tällaisia verbejä on n. 290. Sekä semanttisesti että pohjoissaamen ulkopuolella myös äänteellisesti selvimmin muista erottuva ryhmä (99 kpl) ovat kantasaamen *-hče̮ -johtimella muodostetut verbikantaiset frekventatiiviverbit, joita käsittelimme artikkelisarjan ensimmäisessä osassa (Koponen & Kuokkala 2021).…”
