Retinal neurons process light signals and respond to mechanical signals. mechanosensitive channels (MSCs) have been revealed in all retinal layers in humans, monkeys, mice, rats, porcine, salamanders, goldfish, etc. Some MSCs open in physiological conditions to regulate membrane potential, light responses, and neurotransmitter release, and some MSCs can mediate neurodegenerative effects. Alterations in the intraocular and external pressure critically involve the pathogenesis of glaucoma, traumatic retinal injury (TRI), and other retinal disorders. Our team revealed several MSCs in the outer and inner retinal neurons and first reported the pressure-evoked current and voltage response in salamander photoreceptors and primate bipolar cells. It is still unclear how retinal light pathways deal with endogenous and exogenous mechanical stimulation, and the physiological and pathological significance for retinal neurons to express multiple types of MSCs is not fully understood. This chapter will focus on the variety and functions of MSCs permeable to K+, Na+, and Ca2+, primarily including the big potassium channel (BK), two-pore domain potassium channel TRAAK and TREK, Piezo, epithelial sodium channel (ENaC), transient receptor potential channel vanilloid (TRPV) TRPV1, TRPV2, TRPV4, etc., in retinal photoreceptors, bipolar cells, horizontal cells, amacrine cells, and ganglion cells.

The Kamulyan Garbage Bank is located in the Brontokusuman Village RW 20-22, Mergangsan District, Yogyakarta City which is around the Code River. Not a few people throw away the water for washing clothes in the river, thereby disrupting the aquatic ecosystem. This is the reason and objective of this community service program, which is to reduce the impact of river pollution and empower the people around Kali Code. The implementation method is carried out through seminar and practice of using environmentally friendly detergent production equipment, seminar and practice of standard operating procedures (SOP) using production tools, seminar and practice of calculating the cost of production (HPP), as well as seminar and advanced digital marketing practices. This program is in accordance with the UAD Community Service Program roadmap for 2020-2045 which refers to the realization of accelerated marginal areas towards smart, healthy, environmentally friendly areas with socio-entrepreneurship characteristics, universal values and Islam in 2020-2045. Based on the results of the questionnaire, as many as 90% of participants experienced an increase in knowledge after seminar and practicing.

Background: Chronic dacryocystitis is a common ophthalmological problem in Bangladesh. Clinicians need to prescribe antibiotics to patients as an early conservative treatment protocol and, for prevention of post-operative soft tissue infections. But in most of the cases, the empiric antibiotic therapy shows treatment failure and, consequent development of complications, which might be due to emergence and spread of Multi-Drug-Resistant (MDR) organisms. Objectives: The objective of this study was to detect the prevalence rates of MDR organisms among adult chronic dacryocystitis cases, so that preventive measures can be undertaken in advance to stop its further spread. Methods: A cross sectional descriptive type of study was carried out in the ophthalmology inpatient department of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH), a tertiary care government teaching hospital, from January to December, 2017. One hundred diagnosed cases of chronic dacryocystitis undergoing DCR operation were selected and lacrimal sac swabs were collected from each of them. Isolation and identification of bacteria and their antibiotic sensitivity tests were done by standard procedures in the microbiology laboratory of the college. MDR bacteria were detected according to CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and ECDC (European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control) guidelines. Results: Of the 100 swabs, 73% were culture-positive and, of them, 72.59% were gram-positive and the rest were gram-negative. None of the gram-positive isolates were MDR, but 70% of the gram-negative isolates were MDR. Conclusion: This study provided an early insight into the prevalence of MDR organisms among chronic dacryocystitis cases in the RMCH. The results might be beneficial for the therapeutic approach and prevention of MDR spreading in the ophthalmology wards of all hospitals.
