Keteguhan Rekat Dan Emisi Formaldehida Papan Lamina Rotan Menggunakan Perekat Tanin Formaldehida

Abstract: Composite products made of rattan have a decorative value and potentially can be developed for current market demand. Rattan laminated board is expected to perform effective as a substitution material for wooden furniture. The aim of this research is to determine technology of making laminated rattan board from large rattan species which having diameter of more than 30 mm using phenol based adhesive from organic resources, i.e. bark (mangium, mahoni) and merbau sawdust. The laminated rattan board sizing of 1.5… Show more

“…The level of reactivity of the phenolic compounds contained in mangium bark extract to formaldehyde is expressed by the Stiasny number. The Stiasny number indicates the reactivity of the tannin compound contained, and a number reaching one hundred (100) suggests that the tannin extract contains polyphenols which are very reactive in the polymerization process [ 42 ]. The Stiasny number of the tannin obtained in this study was 73.17%.…”

“…The solids content indicates the resin content contained in the adhesive; the value tends to be directly proportional to the viscosity, specific gravity, and gelation time. The high resin content causes the viscosity and specific gravity of the adhesive to be high, whereas the gelation time tends to be longer [17]. Adhesives with a high solids content will have high adhesion.…”

“…The engineered rattan product made in this study was in the form of a 3-inch rattan laminated board measuring 60 cm x 7.5 cm x 1.5 cm in length, width, and thickness, respectively, using 4 types of synthesized adhesive types of natural resources and 2 types of commercial synthetic adhesives, while on a pilot scale at PIRNAS the rattan laminated panel has the dimension measuring 400 cm x 60 cm x 6 cm, and produced using a commercial synthetic adhesive type from the resorcinol group commonly used in the wood processing industry (Pari et al, 2019). In this research we applied 3 kinds of glue spread rates on the surface, namely 150, 200, and 250 g/m 2 .…”

“…Nevertheless rattan with large diameter can further developed into composite products in the form of Rattan Laminated Board (RLB) with the desired dimensions from rattan strips with the aid of appropriate adhesives. Studies on the manufacture of rattan laminated boards have been done by using water based polymerisocyanate (WBPI) adhesive (Sulastiningsih, Trisatya, & Sukadaryati, 2019) and by using tannin-based adhesive (Pari, Abdurachman, & Santoso, 2019;Santoso & Pari, 2020). Studies on the pre-treatment of raw materials for the application of rattan laminate boards have not been widely carried out.…”
