Kinetic trajectory simulation method for the multi-component magnetized plasma sheath

Abstract: Using kinetic theory, the magnetized plasma sheath characteristics with two species of positive ions has been investigated. This work is based on the assumption that the electrons and both ions have cut-off Maxwellian distribution at the sheath entrance. In order to couple the presheath-sheath interface parameters, the 1d3v kinetic coupling equations are used. The most fundamental kinetic Bohm's condition has been derived for the plasma consisting of two singly charged positive ions. It is found that the prese… Show more

“…A fundamental element of KTS is to trace the particle trajectories in the phase space to discover the related ion velocity distribution functions. In order to trace the trajectories, the simulation region is discretized and the ion equation of motion is solved in a time-centered manner [28][29][30]. An initial potential distribution and particle distributions are taken as input to the iteration and the governing kinetic and the Maxwell equations are solved self-consistently for prescribed boundary conditions.…”

“…The behavior of plasma at material wall of a container is always a fascinating event which is one of the olderst problems in plasma [1] and is still not fully understood [2][3][4][5][6][7]. A thin layer that is formed close to a wall facing plasma and has sharp gradients is known as the plasma sheath.…”

“…Foroutan [28] presented the one-dimensional fluid simulation to investigate the dynamics of an electrostatic sheath for two ion species plasma with dust grains. In recent years, the authors also worked on two ion species plasma in the presence of a uniform oblique magnetic field and collision term using kinetic and fluid models [29][30][31]. Singha et al [32,33] carried out an experiment to study the effect of a non-uniform oblique magnetic field and biasing voltage on presheath and sheath structures.…”
