Kinetics of Ni-Nano Cr2O3 Composite Coating during Early Electro-Crystallization Processes

Abstract: Nucleation kinetics of Ni-nanoCr2O3composite coating during early electro-crystallization was investigated. The results showed that, the early electro-crystallization processes of Ni-nanoCr2O3composite coating and pure Ni coating followed a Scharifker-Hill nucleation/growth mechanism. At the low potential, the nucleation process of pure Ni and Ni-Cr2O3composite system may approach to the progressive nucleation model; With the overpotential increasing, the nucleation model of Pure Ni and Ni-Cr2O3composite syste… Show more

“…17,22 Recently, the electrodeposition process was employed in the preparation of Ni-Cr 2 O 3 nanocomposites. 23,32 As we know, the ethylene glycol reduction method has been widely applied in the fabrication of inorganic nanostructures, including Ni and Cr 2 O 3 . 33,34 Therefore, this method can be effectively extended to the facile synthesis of Ni-Cr 2 O 3 nanocomposites.…”

“…37 At higher deposition potential, residual stresses is larger, and resulting in high density of cracks. 38 Besides, with deposition potential increasing, the nucleation rate increases and its growth rate decreases, resulting grain refining. 39 Thus, the coating surface becomes denser and smoother with negative shift of deposition potential.…”
