Kinetics of reversible addition–fragmentation transfer (RAFT) miniemulsion polymerization of styrene using dibenzyl trithiocarbonate asRAFTreagent and costabilizer

Abstract: The roles of dibenzyl trithiocarbonate (DBTTC) as both costabilizer and reversible addition–fragmentation transfer (RAFT) reagent in RAFT miniemulsion polymerizations of styrene were investigated. The effectiveness of DBTTC costabilizer in retarding Ostwald ripening involved in the storage stability of miniemulsion is comparable to that of conventional low‐molecular‐weight costabilizers such as cetyl alcohol, but inferior to that of hexadecane. The major variables chosen for studying kinetics of RAFT miniemuls… Show more

“…Furthermore, it also often allows for an increase in the nanoparticle's solids content and self-organized structure. 23,24,26,27 Additionally, most of the reported polymer syntheses in mini-emulsion are performed via free-radical polymerization. 23 Crosslinking agents such as triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA), 28 divinylbenzene (DVB) 29 and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) 30,31 are an alternative way to stabilize the polymer dispersion system.…”
