The Application of Flipped Classroom Combined With Locus of Control Analysis in Lean Entrepreneurship Education for College Students

This paper aims to explore the status quo and basic laws of entrepreneurship education at the stage of social development in China, thereby providing a theoretical basis and practical guidance for the cultivation of innovative and entrepreneurial talents in colleges. First, a college entrepreneurship education model based on lean entrepreneurship theory and flipped classroom was established to provide the development of entrepreneurship education with a theoretical framework while improving the students’ autonomous learning ability. Based on the theoretical basis of the influence of the locus of control on entrepreneurial motivation in the entrepreneurial process of college students, the students who participated in the basic education of entrepreneurship among the sophomores in the first semester of the 2018–2019 academic year of a college in Shanghai were selected as the research object. Then, the effect of lean entrepreneurship education under the flipped classroom mode was analyzed. Before the start of the entrepreneurial basic education course, there was no difference between the pretest scores of the research group and the control group students ( P > 0.05). After the course, there was no difference between the posttest scores of the two groups of students ( P > 0.05). It can be confirmed that, based on the flipped classroom education mode of halving the actual number of lectures by teachers, the effect of basic education on entrepreneurship for students is not different from the traditional teaching effect. Based on the flipped classroom mode, the number of people who have reached the level of “understanding” of the text target task is the highest, and the number of people who can reach the “comprehensive application” level of the high-order target is almost 0. It means that the realization of the high-order target still needs to be strengthened. Lean entrepreneurship education mode is based on lean iteration, which is conducive to promoting the development of entrepreneurship education in China. Therefore, the application of flipped classroom combined with locus of control analysis in lean entrepreneurship education for college students can ideally achieve the goal of deep learning, which is greatly significant for improving the effectiveness of entrepreneurship education.

PurposeThe term Lean Startup (LS) was coined by Eric Ries, and his 2011 book has popularized the concept with organizations, both startups and established organizations, implementing LS. However the empirical grounding is thin and for a long time this subject has been neglected by academia. The purpose of this paper is to present a systematic literature review (SLR) on LS, while highlighting core knowledge and identify gaps.Design/methodology/approachA SLR was carried out based on the Preferred Reporting for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) protocol of Scopus and Web of Science databases. In total, 45 articles published in journals and conferences over 10 years were collected which revealed a number of LS research gaps.FindingsThe SLR revealed the tools and methods associated with LS, most cited pros and cons, reasons that cause LS failure, the challenges that companies face in the implementation of LS, and critical success factors (CSFs) that can support these challenges and minimize the reasons for failure.Practical implicationsThe findings of the study can be beneficial to practitioners and senior managers in organizations who wish to delve into the journey of LS. The study also discloses challenges and barriers that can hinder the implementation of LS.Originality/valueAcademic publications regarding LS are sparse and this SLR is one of the first SLRs to explore both the critical failure factors (CFFs) and the CSFs based on peer-reviewed journal and conference proceedings.

PurposeThe aim of the current study is to empirically assess the effects of organizational flexibility on project portfolio (PP) performance, with the mediating role of innovation and moderating effects of environmental dynamism (ED) and absorptive capability (AC).Design/methodology/approachData were collected from 173 manufacturing firms and analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) with the help of a partial least squares (PLS) approach.FindingsResults show that innovation partially mediates the relationship between organizational flexibility and PP performance. Furthermore, the moderating effect of ED between organizational flexibility and innovation was analyzed. Additionally, AC also observed as a moderator between innovation and PP performance.Originality/valueBased on the resource-based view, this study contributes to the literature by addressing the roles of innovation, ED and AC in the relationship between organizational flexibility and PP performance. Implications for managers also discussed in the end; for example, to be more competitive, they should incorporate flexibility into the firm to encourage innovation. It also emphasizes to select new innovative opportunities that correspondingly have effects on the PP performance.
