Known Modifiable Risk Factors of Cancers

Abstract: It was estimated the proportion and number of invasive cancer cases and deaths for 26 cancer types in adults aged 30 years and older in the United States in 2014. In this study was found that these cancers were attributable to modifiable risk factors such as cigarette smoking, second-hand smoke, alcohol intake, physical inactivity, excess body weight, red and processed meat consumption, low consumption of vegetables and fruits, dietary calcium, and ultraviolet radiation and six cancer-associated infections. “…Our patient had a haploidentical bone marrow transplant which put him at higher risk for GVHD and infections. While the incidence of chronic GVHD ranges from 6% to 80%, the morbidity and mortality due to GVHD after having hematopoietic cell transplantation is more than 10% [ 9 ].…”

“… 172 , 173 Further, people with SCI primarily suffer from common bacterial infections such as pneumonia and UTIs, 26 but not infections from opportunistic pathogens 174 , 175 seen in people with dysfunctional immune responses or immune deficiencies. 176 , 177 Continued research on the immune response to SCI and an emphasis on educating patients and providers on the prevention of common infections have the potential to significantly reduce infection rates in the future.…”

“…Zinc is required for many enzymatic reactions related to innate and adaptive immunity, including antiviral defense mechanisms [ 52 ]. Accordingly, zinc deficiency results in a compromised immune system, with direct ramifications for immune cell function (B-cell, T-cell, and natural killer cell) [ 53 ]. Regarding COVID-19, serum zinc levels are lower in infected children [ 54 ] and adults [ 55 ] compared to non-infected individuals.…”
