The rise of theft, robbery, gambling and drug users by the youth of Negorejo Village, Lumbang District, Probolinggo Regency causes mental loss, addiction, and prolonged depression that can affect their peers and minors. The presence of Hadratus Shaykh Habib Ali Bin Muhammad al-Habsyi in 2017 brought solutions and significant changes in overcoming one of these problems by establishing the Pettengan Shalawat Council. The Pettengan Shalawat Assembly is a prayer assembly held at night to instill character values. Since the implementation of Shalawat Pettengan, youths are more civilized and have character; this is evidenced by the low level of drug users by young people, who are starting to realize the true meaning of life and the purpose of life. The implementation of the Pettengan Shalawat aims to grow awareness in shaping the character of youth and society so that they can communicate and establish good relationships with God (hablun min Allah) and others (hablun minannas). In this case, the existence of the Pettengan prayer meeting can direct, guide, and make people moral, dignified, and have a character so that they are helpful to the nation and religion.

This article explains, in a narrative-analytical manner, the Pendalungan culture in the Eastern Salient of Java. The Eastern Salient of Java is located in the far eastern part of East Java, known as 'Pendalungan'. This article departs from the history of Pendalungan, whose cultural identity is unclear. Therefore, this article will briefly explain the migration of ethnic Javanese-Madurese to East Java, the interpretation of Pendalungan, and the results of the analysis of the cultural trajectory of Pendalungan in the Eastern Salient of Java. In writing this article, researchers combined historical methods with cultural approaches and accumulated theoretical concepts. The main finding in this research is that the Pendalungan culture is one of the keys to building the local identity of a particular area, in this case, the Eastern Salient of Java. The Pendalungan culture, due to the ethnic acculturation version of the Eastern Salient of Java Region, is not located in a theological doctrine theory. The cultural and religious dimensions of the Eastern Salient of Java Pendalungan culture lie precisely in the aspects of identity and the formality of forms that develop and shape the face of culture following the direction of purpose and substance in each particular regional locality. None other than these developments are aligned with the cultural and religious realities of the people in the Eastern Salient of the Java Region. It is the foundation that paved the way for the development of the Pendalungan culture in the Eastern Salient of Java until today.

Tulisan ini merupakan penelitian yang mengaji tentang kode bahasa yang dipakai oleh masyarakat pendatang dari wilayah Tapal Kuda Jawa Timur yang tinggal dan menetap di wilayah Roomo Pesisir, Gresik beserta pola bahasanya. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi dan wawancara. Pada tahap analisis data, menggunakan teknik etnometodologi yang ada dalam Etnososiolinguistik. Penelitian ini menghasilkan tiga kode bahasa masyarakat pendatang di wilayah Roomo Pesisir, Gresik dengan rincian: 1) bahasa Indonesia; 2) bahasa Jawa (ngoko dan krama); 3) bahasa Madura (kasar), dan tujuh pola pemilihan bahasa yakni 1) Bahasa sehari-hari dalam keluarga; 2) Bahasa di sekolah/tempat kerja; 3) Bahasa dengan sesama pendatang dari daerah yang sama; 4) Bahasa pada acara (hajatan, posyandu, vaksin, pengajian, dsb.); 5) Bahasa dengan orang tua; 6) Bahasa berdasarkan etnis; 7) Bahasa berdasarkan status sosial (pendidikan/jabatan). Ketujuh pola bahasa tersebut merupakan akibat dari pergesekan penggunaan tiga bahasa dalam oleh penutur dan waktu yang sama.
