“…Clínicamente es un sentimiento subjetivo que el niño experimenta con terror, nerviosismo, agitación y llanto. Los niños con niveles más altos de ansiedad en el preoperatorio son más vulnerables a presentar agitación al despertar de una anestesia general, alteraciones del comportamiento en el postoperatorio, así como mayor incidencia de dolor postoperatorio y necesidad de analgésicos (11,13) Por otro lado, la ansiedad activa la respuesta humana al estrés aumentando la concentración sérica de hormonas neuroendocrinas (cortisol, catecolaminas) y citoquinas (interluquina 6) lo que ocasiona un aumento del catabolismo, retraso en la cicatrización e inmunosupresión postoperatoria. Los niños son especialmente vulnerables a esta respuesta sistémica debido a su limitada reserva energética, gran masa encefálica y los grandes requerimientos de glucosa (11,14).…”
