En los últimos años se ha ido extendiendo cada vez más por occidente el debate acerca del estatus social e intrafamiliar de los animales no humanos que conviven diariamente en nuestros hogares, comúnmente conocidos como mascotas. Las nuevas teorías éticas surgidas a partir de los años 70 del siglo XX han ido transformándose y adaptándose tanto por el activismo animalista como por los humanos convivientes con animales no humanos. Esto ha derivado en un movimiento, lento pero constante, mediante el cual no sólo se han ido forjando lazos cada vez más íntimos con los animales no humanos, sino que se les ha ido otorgando ciertas posiciones dentro de las ya de por sí complejas redes humanas de cuidado. En este artículo, partiendo de las nuevas leyes españolas de protección animal y basándome en las principales corrientes teóricas que trabajan el vínculo canino-humano, trato de ofrecer una nueva perspectiva a la hora de considerar al perro doméstico desde las ciencias sociales.

In this study, we focused on blended families, which are a family type that is becoming increasingly widespread. The scarcity of current information on this type of family justifies scientific interest, but also means that there is a lack of appropriate social policies that address this phenomenon. Thematic analysis was used as the research tool. A total of 12 semi-structured interviews were conducted with members of blended families. Based on these interviews, three themes were developed: “What influences the decision to start a new family?”, “Challenges to the family configuration: normalisation strategies” and “New ways of understanding family ties”. The results suggest that these families are still built around the basic pillar of heteronormativity. Thus, further research is needed on this new family model, while pressing for more legal norms that are aligned with the new family realities. Social workers should promote the acceptance of blended families through community education.

Abstract. "My mother's wife": Identity and functions of co-parents in non-heteronormative stepfamiliesThis article examines the representation of stepparents in non-heteronormative stepfamilies and addresses their identity and roles. Four families that came from a prior heterosexual marriage and one from a prior homosexual marriage were interviewed. The results reveal that sexual orientation is not relevant in family relationships for the couples interviewed. However, divorce and a new relation can be a cause of conflict, making it important to define the role of the stepparents. Stepparents are defined as friends and counsellors, roles they should not overstep. Moreover, involvement of the other parent, the children's age and cohabitation are factors that influence stepparents' identity and functions.
