Show more

“…According to the study by Guerrero et al (2018), the forest that currently occupies the RNIPL is not a relict, but a recently installed association, established in the mid-nineteenth century, when rainfall and minimum temperature increased in the region. This partly explains its low biological diversity compared to the Paranaense forest that characterizes the provinces of northeastern Argentina.…”

“…From the standpoint of the Cabrera and Dawson (1944) theory, which considers that the forest is a relict, low biodiversity would be due to changing environment causing local extinctions or preventing many species from colonizing the environments due to climate limitations. However, from the standpoint of the new hypothesis proposed by Guerrero et al (2018), there could be a state of biological succession with recent incoming species colonizing the vacant niches.…”

“…It covers 6.000 hectares and extends over 8 kilometers of coastline where different environments and communities develop, among them the gallery forests, which constitute the world's southernmost subtropical riparian forests (Cabrera & Dawson, 1944). Guerrero et al (2018) postulated that the marginal forest of Punta Lara is a recently installed association, established in the mid-nineteenth century when the climate of the Río de la Plata region presented an increase in rainfall and minimum temperature, a trend that continues until the present. Currently, the Reserve is the core area of the Pereyra Iraola Biosphere Reserve within the framework of the UNESCO MAB Program (Barbetti, 2008).…”
