An integrative geographical climatology is presented to objectively identify regional patterns of climate variability within the mid-low Nazas-Aguanaval basin within the States of Durango and Coahuila in Central Northern Mexico, using decadal mean values for maximum and minimum temperature, as well as monthly precipitation during the seven periods from 1951-2020. The historical data was acquired from 26 field meteorological stations and 44 grid points from the SWAT model. Furthermore, the data was categorized by means of geographical features of altitude, longitude and latitude in three groups each. A combination of meteorological vulnerability from all the categories for each sampling point was then estimated for each locality. From the overall analysis, western sites resulted as the most vulnerable to climatic changes, while eastern and central (latitude) displayed the lowest variability occurrence. By means of downscaling the meteorological variation, it is possible to improve the understanding of mechanisms relying on regional climate variability and climate change. This evaluation can be further incorporated to management strategies for different stakeholders in arid and semi-arid lands, particularly within the Chihuahuan Desert.

<p>Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have given a new boost to remote sensing and image classification techniques due to the high level of detail among other factors. Object-based image analysis (OBIA) could improve classification accuracy unlike to pixel-based, especially in high-resolution images. OBIA application for image classification consists of three stages i.e., segmentation, class definition and training polygons, and classification. However, defining the parameters: spatial radius (SR), range radius (RR) and minimum region size (MR) is necessary during the segmentation stage. Despite their relevance, they are usually visually adjusted, which leads to a subjective interpretation. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to generate knowledge focused on evaluating combinations of these parameters. This study describes the use of the mean-shift segmentation algorithm followed by <em>Random Forest </em>classifier using Orfeo Toolbox software. It was considered a multispectral orthomosaic derived from UAV to generate a suburban map land cover in town of El Pueblito, Durango, Mexico. The main aim was to evaluate efficiency and segmentation quality of nine parameter combinations previously reported in scientific studies.This in terms of number generated polygons, processing time, discrepancy measures for segmentation and classification accuracy metrics. Results evidenced the importance of calibrating the input parameters in the segmentation algorithms. Best combination was RE=5, RR=7 and TMR=250, with a Kappa index of 0.90 and shortest processing time. On the other hand, RR showed a strong and inversely proportional degree of association regarding the classification accuracy metrics.</p>

Objective: Plant life begins at germination. Stimulating germination with chemical methods can be advantageous. The pregerminative treatment of four promoters was determined in two maize genotypes (G1, G2). Design/methodology/approach: Sixty seeds per Petri dish were used as experimental unit with three repetitions, organized in a completely randomized 2×4 factorial design. Two factors were taken into consideration: A) Genotypes (G1, G2); and B) four pregerminative promoters. The genotypes were Antelope G1 and yellow Antelope G2. Meanwhile, the pregerminative promoters were salicylic acid (‎C7H6O3) (SA), citrulline (C6H13N3O3) (CI), humic substances derived from leonardite (HS), and tap water (TW), in 1000-ppm concentrations. The following variables were evaluated: germination percentage (GP)/days-1, radicle diameter (RD), radicle length (RL), and number of lateral seminal roots (NSR). An analysis of variance and Tukey tests (α £ 0.05) were performed. Results: The germination promoters were highly significant in both genotypes, as well as during the promoter-genotype interaction. G1 and G2 means showed a higher growth and development for humic substances (HS) during germination in the NSR. Study Limitations/Implications: Germination can be inhibited, if the promoters are overweighted. Findings/Conclusions: The best genotype and germination promoter (G2) had a 94% effectiveness and HS at 1000 ppm. CI and SA registered the lowest GP.
