Lab of things

Abstract: Researchers who develop new home technologies using connected devices often want to conduct large-scale field studies in homes to evaluate their technology, but conducting such studies today is extremely challenging. Inspired by the success of PlanetLab, which enabled development and evaluation of global network services, we are developing a shared infrastructure for home environments, called Lab of Things. Our goal is to substantially lower the barrier to developing and evaluating new technologies for the hom… Show more

“…The HomeHub connects to the cloud-side component of Lab of Things for data storage and central management. This allows Lab of Things to monitor, update, and remote access deployment systems across multiple environments [1,2]. The Lab of Things is in early use across various academic and applied projects [7].…”

“…Researchers and practitioners should, therefore, "go in the wild" and experiment their systems in real settings, thanks also to the great availability of commercial Internet of Things devices. Some inspiring works and examples about this topic are Lab of Things by Brush Bernheim et al [14], the CASAS Project by Cook et al [16] and the Energy@Home project Corgnati et al [19].…”
