Lack of asparagine depletion in the cerebrospinal fluid after one intravenous dose of PEG-asparaginase: a window study at initial diagnosis of childhood ALL

Abstract: patients. 5 T cells with an enhanced expression of CD54 and a high IL-4 content were found in patients with asthma. 8 The biological significance and mechanism of upregulation of CD54 on T cells in B-CLL need, however, further clarification. This study showed that several critical activation/interaction molecules on T cells in B-CLL are abnormally expressed, and more pronounced by advanced stage. These defects may contribute to immune dysfunction responsible for immunological abnormalities and an impaired regul… Show more

“…Furthermore, most patients achieved a complete ASN depletion in CSF on day 33 of induction treatment. It has been suggested that this is one advantage compared to pegaspargase, which often shows incomplete ASN depletion in this compartment, but large studies are lacking …”

“…For proteins for which aggregation is the major problem during encapsulation (and not necessarily activity loss such as in the case of α‐chymotrypsin), these results hold promise that even for receptor ligands and related molecules PEGylation could be an excellent method to further their use in medical applications using sustained release from PLGA microspheres. Finally, peptides and proteins, including PEG conjugates, mostly do not cross the blood‐brain barrier 40. To avoid repeated injections into the cerebrospinal fluid in applications geared toward treating the central nervous system, sustained release of such drugs from injected PLGA microspheres could be a valuable strategy.…”
