Abstract: This Circular is the result of the efforts of numerous individuals who have contributed to the research, development, and preparation of various digital cartographic and geographic standards for the National Mapping Division of the u.s. Geological Survey. The individuals named as chapter authors represent both the originators of the various concepts as well as the writers who expanded and clarified these ideas.
