“…This clearly confirmed the direct relationship between land use trends and specific species. Similar results were confirmed for different types of landscapes (Baus et al, 2014;Druga, Falťan, 2014;Falťan et al, 2011;Feranec et al, 2014;Havlíček et al, 2012;Havlíček, Chrudina, 2013;Mojses, Petrovič, 2013;Štych, 2011).…”

“…It is important to assess the relative positive and negative effects of land abandonment on particular areas where low-intensity farming is no longer socially or economically viable in order to quantify the potential conservation costs and benefits of rewilding as a land-use management policy. The spontaneous succession of vegetation resulting from agricultural extensification helps to recover woodland; on the other hand, extensification, continuing landscape abandonment, and social changes since the mid-20 th century threaten the maintenance of TAL (Baumann et al, 2011;Keenleyside & Tucker, 2010;Kuemmerle et al, 2008;Mojses & Petrovič, 2013). Land use change is one of the main drivers of species extinction.…”

“…According to Angelstam, Boresjö-Bronge, Mikusiński, Sporrong, and Wästfelt (2003), cultural landscapes are at risk of disappearing due to land abandonment and, as Tarolli et al (2014) have noted, terraced vineyards are among the most endangered landscapes in Europe. The reasons for the collapse of terraces in the Mediterranean region are well explored (Lasanta et al, 2001;Lesschen et al, 2008); however, the destruction of terraced areas is also an important cultural and aesthetic issue in the Central European region (Mojses & Petrovič, 2013;Nyizsalovszki & Fórián, 2007), and therefore special attention should be paid to their protection. Cyffka and Bock (2008) highlighted the importance of establishing the historical state of landscapes as a way of understanding changes over time, an essential step in beginning the planning process.…”
