We investigate the linear and nonlinear viscoelastic response of a supramolecular gelator formed by association of a bisurea monomer (EHUT) via hydrogen bonds, in a nonpolar organic solvent (dodecane). Past experimental studies reported contradictory results concerning the concentration dependence and the magnitude of the terminal relaxation time. The discrepancies among data were attributed to the presence of water and, in particular, its chain stopper effects on the EHUT supramolecular assembly. Here, we present new measurements with this system under conditions of controlled humidity, achieved by means of a simple setup developed for this purpose. We resolve the discrepancy and demonstrate that humidity (both during sample storage and measurement) can substantially affect the linear viscoelastic response (frequency spectra). The magnitude of the terminal relaxation time, s t , is significantly reduced (by as much as 1 order of magnitude) and its concentration dependence follows s t $ c 0.77 6 0.06. This scaling differs from the theoretical prediction with nearly double exponent (1.25). We tentatively attribute this difference to the polydispersity in the supramolecular chain length, which results mainly from the EHUT self-assembly association mechanism, and propose that constraint release effects of smaller chains should be considered as they may weaken the concentration dependence of the terminal relaxation. On the other hand, the magnitude of the plateau modulus G 0 is affected by humidity to a lesser degree (not exceeding 50%), whereas its concentration dependence is in accordance with predictions, G 0 $ c 2 6 0.21. Yielding processes in a colloidal glass of soft star-like micelles under large amplitude oscillatory shear (LAOS) Structural analysis of non-aqueous layered silicate suspensions subjected to shear flow Response of concentrated suspensions under large amplitude oscillatory shear flow Abstract Rheological measurements on a model thixotropic suspension by Dullaert and Mewis [J. Non-Newtonian Fluid Mech. 139(1-2), 21-30 (2006); Rheol. Acta 45, 23-32 (2005)] are extended to include large amplitude oscillatory shear (LAOS) flow, shear flow reversal, and a novel unidirectional LAOS flow to provide an extended rheological data set for testing constitutive models. We use this extended data set to test a new structure-based model developed by improving the Delaware thixotropic model [A. Mujumdar et al., J. Non-Newtonian Fluid Mech. 102, 157-178 (2002); A. J. Apostolidis et al., J. Rheol. 59, 275-298 (2015)]. Model parameters are determined from steady, small amplitude oscillatory, and step shear rate tests. Holding those parameters fixed, model predictions are compared to LAOS experiments. Similar comparisons are made for three contemporary models from the literature. Two of these models use a scalar internal structural parameter and include the modified Jeffreys model proposed by de Souza Mendes and Thompson [Rheol. Acta 52, 673-694 (2013)]. The third model is based on fluidity additivity [F. Bautista et al., J. Non-Newtonian Fluid Mech. 80, 93-113 (1999)]. A common weakness in all models is shown to be the use of scalar order parameters that cannot account for the reversal of flow directionality inherent in LAOS flow. The purpose of work: the choice of the rational composition of the batch mixture, which improves the molding properties of the silt loams in the production of wall ceramics by the method of plastic molding. In the course of the study, the fraction-size distribution and morphological features of the fractions were analyzed on a photometric sedimentometer FSX-6K and by optical microscopy. Determination of the plastic strength of elasto-visco-plastic systems was carried out by Rehbinder’s conical plastometer. The values of fast and slow elastic and plastic deformations were determined on an installation operating on the principle of a parallel- shifting plate. For molding compounds with various corrective mineral additives, optimum values of molding moisture in which the compound is not adversely affected by shortage and excess moisture have been experimentally established; moduli of fast and slow elastic deformation and other structural and mechanical characteristics are determined. The percent values of the reduced deformations were obtained on the basis of rheological curves of disperse systems in the axes “deformation - shear time”. It is established that the additions of components of different genesis and with different fraction morphology affect the deformation behavior of the molding compounds.
