“…Comparisons for other chemicals are limited by lack of measurements. Within a study, most often, lower concentrations provide higher measured BCFs, for example, PFOS with 3 amphibian species (Abercrombie et al 2019), 4 of 7 PFAS chemicals with common carp (Inoue et al 2012), 16 of 21 chemicals with zebrafish (Chen et al 2016), and for exposures of 6 PFAS at concentrations of 1, 5 and 10 μg/L to Daphnia magna , 15 of 18 comparisons (Dai et al 2013). Cause(s) of the decrease in BCFs with higher concentrations are unknown.…”

“…In amphibians (Rana pipiens, Anaxyrus americanus, and Ambystoma tigrinum) BCF value observed for PFOS (BCFs = 47-259) was greater than that recorded for PFOA (BCFs = 0.46-2.5) [89]. Similarly, in tadpoles of R. pipiens exposed for 40 days to three different concentrations of PFOS, PFHxS, PFOA, and 6:2 fluorotelomer sulfonate (6:2 FTS) the PFOS, showed higher accumulated levels with BCF ranging from 19.6 to 119.3 while other PFAS had BCF < 1.0 [66].…”

“…Toads were much smaller; thus, whole bodies were extracted with no need for subsampling. Salamanders were too large to homogenize, so whole livers were extracted instead, except for 8000‐ppb PFOS exposures, where liver subsamples were used because of the very high concentrations expected (Martin et al 2009; Ulhaq et al 2015; Cui et al 2018) based on known bioaccumulation factors (Abercrombie et al 2019). We confirmed homogeneity of tiger salamander livers by sectioning a liver into 11 parts (Supplemental Data, Figure S1) and extracted and analyzed each section separately.…”
