Laser Hemorrhoidoplasty Procedure vs Open Surgical Hemorrhoidectomy: a Trial Comparing 2 Treatments for Hemorrhoids of Third and Fourth Degree

Abstract: Objective:According to the ‘‘vascular’’ theory, arterial overflow in the superior hemorrhoidal arteries would lead to dilatation of the hemorrhoidal venous plexus. Hemorrhoid laser procedure (LHP) is a new laser procedure for outpatient treatment of hemorrhoids in which hemorrhoidal arterial flow feeding the hemorrhoidal plexus is stopped by laser coagulation.Aim:Our aim was to compare the hemorrhoid laser procedure with open surgical procedure for outpatient treatment of symptomatic hemorrhoids.Material and m… Show more

“…Three RCTs (Naderan et al ., ; Maloku et al ., ; Giamundo et al ., ), including a total of 160 patients, compared the outcomes of intra‐haemorrhoidal coagulation with 980‐nm diode laser with haemorrhoidectomy.
6.4 Rectal resection using a stapler device [including stapled transanal rectal resection (STARR)] should not be used to treat haemorrhoids. Low level of evidence, downgraded by the experts .

“…It is associated with shorter operative time and less postoperative pain compared to excisional surgery [170]. Furthermore, in a recent observational study concerning 50 patients with II-and III-degree HD, Brusciano et al [171] reported a quick return to daily activity 1 day (40%) and 2 days (100%) after the procedures.…”

“…This method is suitable for use in the outpatient sector and is only slightly restricting for patients. [6,8,9,14]. Die präoperativ geäußerten Hämorrhoidalbeschwerden konnten durch den Eingriff deutlich und statistisch signifikant gesenkt werden.…”
