Laser Sensors for Displacement, Distance and Position

Abstract: Laser sensors can be used to measure distances to objects and their related parameters (displacements, position, surface profiles and velocities). Laser sensors are based on many different optical techniques, such as triangulation, time-of-flight, confocal and interferometric sensors. As laser sensor technology has improved, the size and cost of sensors have decreased, which has led to the widespread use of laser sensors in many areas. In addition to traditional manufacturing industry applications, laser senso… Show more

“…A legszélesebb körben használt lézeres távolságmérők működése a rövid lézerimpulzusok repülési idejének (TOF = time of flight) mérésén alapul [1][2]. Ezekben a kompakt műszerekben az elérhető időfelbontás jelenleg a pikoszekundum (1ps=10 -12 s) tartományba esik, az ennek megfelelő távolságmérési pontosság pedig kb.…”

“…In previous study [33], the classification of lasers based on measurement principles includes five categories: time of flight (TOF) sensors, triangulation sensors, confocal sensor interferometric sensors, fiber Bragg grating sensors, and laser Doppler velocimetry, where a specific and detailed report of these categories have been described. Since most lasers used for the lane-level road network extraction of existing studies use TOF sensors, we take the TOF sensor as an example.…”

“…Far better results could be reached with a time of flight (ToF) distance sensor, which is typically used as a scanning device [12][13][14][15] rang finder [16][17][18] and gesture detection sensor [19]. The used VL53L0X module is capable of capturing distances up to a maximum range of 2 m with a very high accuracy.…”
