LC-MS/HRMS Analysis, Anti-Cancer, Anti-Enzymatic and Anti-Oxidant Effects of Boerhavia diffusa Extracts: A Potential Raw Material for Functional Applications

Abstract: Boerhavia diffusa is a great tropical plant and is widely used for various traditional purposes. In the present study, we examined the influence of solvents (dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, methanol and infusion (water)) on chemical composition and biological capabilities of B. diffusa. An UHPLC-HRMS method was used to determine the chemical characterization. The biological ability was examined for antioxidant, enzyme inhibitory and anti-cancer effects. To evaluate antioxidant effects, different chemical metho… Show more

“…The number of plants used for treatment is estimated to be 20,000 named as medicinal plants. The studies on medicinal plants and active substances derived from these have increased the interest in plants for modern medicine in recent years (F. Hossain et al., 2021 ; S. Hossain et al., 2021 ; Sinan et al., 2021 ; Tallei et al., 2021 ).…”

“…The methanol extracts of lead bioactive isolates of Dita bark are reportedly an effective source of antidepressants, anti-inflammatory drugs, and thrombolytic agents [ 10 ]. Besides, the methanol extracts of Hedychium coronarium (Zingiberaceae) have functions against oxidization, enzyme activity, and tumors [ 11 ], while those of Rhamnus triquetra (Wall.) are candidate components to develop new agents against multiple chronic diseases [ 12 ].…”

“…An antioxidant acts as a protective barrier against ROS, which causes chronic and degenerative diseases. 130 The main health problems such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders may be caused by the formation of free radicals. Antioxidants are very beneficial because they scavenge these free radicals and help prevent these kinds of disorders because they reduce the oxidative injury of cell proteins, carbohydrates and lipids.…”
