The COVID-19 pandemic sparked worldwide efforts to combat the health crisis, including vaccine development and distribution. However, varying political responses to vaccination policies complicated public discourse and influenced vaccine acceptance. This research paper employs critical discourse analysis (CDA) to compare (de)legitimation strategies used in Tanzanian political speeches by two presidents: late President Magufuli and current President Samia Suluhu Hassan. The study focuses on their approaches to legitimizing or delegitimizing COVID-19 vaccines in 2021. Two speeches were purposefully selected based on their relevance to vaccination decisions. President Magufuli employed strategies such as discrediting experts, discrediting others, denial, conspiracy theories, and making accusations to delegitimize vaccines. In contrast, President Samia justified vaccine acceptance using strategies such as authorization, moral evaluation, emotional appeals, and rationalization. These differences in approach can be attributed to their respective ideologies. President Magufuli, a populist leader, displayed scepticism towards Western medicine and promoted local solutions, while President Samia presented herself as a pragmatic leader who prioritizes scientific solutions and international cooperation in addressing health crises. The findings shed light on the complexities of public health communication and vaccine acceptance in Tanzania.

Urban publicity translation, as a cross-cultural communication activity, should aim for communication, employ various translation strategies, adapt to the target language’s expression habits, overcome cultural differences, and make the translation easy to accept for target readers. In order to achieve the goal of external promotion, publicity texts should respect and conform to the target culture’s language expression as well as the psychology of the audience during the initial stage of urban publicity translation. This paper analyzes the causes of cultural vacancies in the translation of urban publicity materials, starting with the classification and sorting of cultural vacancies in the translation of publicity materials. This paper focuses on using a computer corpus to reconstruct cross-cultural text for urban publicity translation. An automatic corpus expansion method combined with the EM (expectation-maximization) algorithm is proposed to solve this problem. The model is iteratively trained after the generated single corpus is combined with the original data set to create a parallel corpus. Finally, as another important feature of words, the word cooccurrence degree is incorporated into the interword relationship extraction model to create a new word translation evaluation index. Finally, the experiment demonstrates that the EIWR (extraction of interword relations) has higher accuracy than the VSM (vector space model).

The paper is devoted to the study of the topical issue of speech manipulation of consciousness in political communication. The paper attempts a quantitative analysis of the linguocultural concepts that influence the recipient of information in modern German political discourse. The aim of the paper is to systematise the most frequent lexemes representing linguocultural concepts that act as a tool of speech influence in modern German-language political discourse. The speeches of the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz made in January-May 2023 served as the research material. The analysis of the frequency of the lexical units was carried out using the LancsBox corpus manager. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that it makes an attempt to determine the discourse specifics of the use of linguocultural concepts as a speech means of manipulating consciousness in its correlation with the relevant linguistic and statistical data obtained using the automated text processing method. As a result of the research, it has been proved that linguocultural concepts act as a tool for manipulating information recipients, among these the most frequent are DEMOKRATIE/DEMOCRACY, GEMEINWOHL / COMMON GOOD, ZUKUNFT/FUTURE, WEG/PATH, STAAT/STATE.
