Leiomyosarcoma of the renal vein

Abstract: The preoperative diagnosis for primary leiomyosarcoma of the renal vein, an extremely rare tumor, is difficult. The tumor predominantly occurs in women and on the left side. Its natural history is toward distant metastases and a poor 5‐year survival rate. Nephrectomy and en‐bloc surgical resection remain the mainstay of therapy. We present three such cases and review the world literature. © 1996 Wiley‐Liss, Inc.

“…Primary leiomyosarcoma originating from the renal vein is quite uncommon with 50 to 60 years as prevalence peak age. It more commonly arises from the right renal vein compared to the left renal vein (2,4). Long-term outcomes are closely related to tumor size and the feasibility of complete tumor resection (5).…”

“…Лишь в 5 % случаев распространение на ПВ при ПКР выявляют при размере первичной опухоли < 4 см. Первичные лейомиосаркомы ПВ гораздо меньшего размера и в основном располагаются за пределами по-чек, сдавливая окружающие структуры и вызывая тем самым болевой синдром [18,21].…”
