“…A very high frequency of carinated end scrapers was observed in this industry from layer 21 [66] in association with split-base points [49]. Aurignacian used thick flakes (around 3 cm thick) to shape carinated end scrapers [65, 67]. As it was almost impossible to produce such blanks by freehand percussion from the small flint pebbles so distinctive of the Latium region, Aurignacian flintknappers from Fossellone used the bipolar technique to produce them.…”

“…The management blanks consist of sub-categories such as crests shaping an artificial or natural pre-existing ridge, asymmetrical blanks laterally struck at the edges of flaking surfaces, overshot blanks removing the distal part of the core, maintenance blanks generically related to shaping purposes and surface cleaning blanks which show a high amount of previous negatives clearing the flaking surface for the next full debitage episode. Cores have been classified following the flaking surface morphology: pre-core (abandoned at the early shaping stage), parallel edges (broad surface framed by parallel edges (Bon, 2002)), semi-tournant (semi-circumferential flaking surface involving adjacent faces (Bon, 2002;Falcucci & Peresani, 2018)), narrow fronted (narrow flaking surface isolated through flank negatives (Davidzon & Goring-Morris, 2003;Falcucci & Peresani, 2018)), narrow-fronted sur tranche (natural narrow surface (Normand & Turq, 2005)), transversal carinated (broad flaking surface on a front slicing the artefact's thickness (Bon, 2002;Chiotti & Cretin, 2011)) and non-organised cores. Similar artefact measurements have been taken for both technological and typological samples.…”

“…Les nucléus réutilisés sont des nucléus à éclats ou des nucléus laminaires prismatiques généralement parvenus à exhaustion. Sur les sites aurignaciens, il peut également s'agir de grattoirs carénés (N = 6) ou d'ébauches de grattoirs carénés (Chiotti & Cretin 2011 ; N = 1).…”
