Level-Crossing-Untersuching der Stark-Aufspaltung der tiefsten1 P 1-Terme von Ca, Sr und Ba

Abstract: Level-Crossing Investigation of the Stark-Splitting of the Lowest 1P1-Levels of Ca, Sr, and BaUsing the level-crossing technique, magnitude and sign of the tensor polarizability etch of the lowest 1Pl-levels of Ca, Sr, and Ba have been measured by investigating the splitting into Zeeman-sublevels in superimposed homogeneous electric and magnetic fields. The experimental results are: 0~ten/gj ~---13.6(3) kHz/(kV/cm) 2 for Ca etch/g j= --14.32 (15) The polarizability constants are discussed with regard to the s… Show more

“…The distance between the capacitor plates, designed at 6 mm, was calibrated on the accurately measured [9] tensor polarizability of the first resonance line of barium (6s 2 1So~6S6 p 1p~, at 553.5 nm). From the measured splitting at known voltage and the value of -10.76(10) kHz/(kV/cm) 2 for the tensor polarizability given in [9], we derived a value of 5.94(6) mm, the error being arbitrarily doubled to include possible systematic errors. The polarizabilities were determined by measuring the splitting and displacement in an electric field of the signal from the 13SBa-isotope, which has no hyperfine structure.…”

“…The result can be compared to the tensor polarizabilities ~ten(P) of the lowest 3p~ and ~P~ levels of Ca, Sr, and Ba [2]. Only for Sr is found an agreement of the two c%n(P ) values which is similar to Yb, whereas for Ca and especially for Ba considerable discrepancies are obtained.…”
