Level of Service Analysis for Metro Station with Transit Cooperative Research Program (TCRP) Manual: A Case Study—Shohada Station in Iran

Abstract: One of the main infrastructures in rail transportation is metro station. Obviously, analyzing and improving the capacity of the stations will ultimately lead to improved performance of the overall network. The capacity of metro station is the ability of the station and its associated spaces to create safety and comfort for the number of passengers expected to use the station. In this research, volume of passengers in the Shohada Square metro station has been used and simulated using VISSIM software. By the res… Show more

“…The concept of service level has several dimensions and its forms of assessment are closely related to customer satisfaction (Azadpeyma & Kashi, 2019;. Its measurement, according to Palonen & Viri (2019) may involve qualitative characteristics -based on opinions / experiences, such as comfort, ease of use or a sense of security -and/or quantitative -that can be directly measured, such as frequency, operation interval, travel time and/or walking distance to a stop.…”

“…In this way, it ceases to generate indignation and, consequently, solutions are not sought, and the less-assisted population naturally lives with these problems. For those who can, avoid this type of service, leaving the reach of a mobility standard linked to less impacting modes to the environment, as the service level is not satisfactory, a negative assessment that under the vision of Azadpeyma & Kashi (2019) can make it an unattractive transport mode. It is not by chance that urban trains in RMRJ fall short of running with adequate use of their capacity, outside peak hours.…”

“…However, some passengers may experience extra waiting or access time as a result of skipstop services [15]. The punctuality of rail services is also a primary indicator of the performance in railway systems [16], defined as the percentage of trains that arrive at their destinations with a delay below the specified threshold [17]. Train delays are unavoidable due to the random nature of the disturbance that occurs during the service [18].…”

“…The evaluation of the PT network alternative schemes is the process of selecting the optimal planning scheme. 25 When the SPA method is adopted to evaluate the alternative schemes of the PT network, the alternative schemes are regarded as a set, and its every evaluation indicator is the each characteristic of this set. The evaluator’s opinion on the alternative scheme is seen as another set.…”
