“…Dual fuelling gives the engine fuel flexibility and many studies with various alternative fuels have been conducted (Ashok et al 2022;Chakraborty et al 2022;Li et al 2017;Paykani et al 2021). In some studies, using biofuels has shown better combustion characteristics and reduces emissions.…”

“…Many researchers have investigated the combustion of renewable fuels in both conventional and modern engines. 7,11,[28][29][30][31][32][33][34][35] Some researchers and companies moved one step further and have designed or manufactured special engines compatible with specific biofuels like bio-hydrogen. 36,37 In fact, burning of fossil fuels is the main reason for the combustion engines to be considered unsustainable and when it comes to the renewable fuels the combustion behavior of these fuels is not fully understood yet.…”

“…Furthermore, because of their versatility and cheap production costs, alternative fuels in CI engines are favored due to limited fossil fuel reserves and costly crude oil production. Alternative fuels like methanol, 1 ethanol, 2 H 2 , 3 CNG, 4 LPG generated domestically which may help the country’s energy security and economic growth by reducing its reliance on foreign fuel suppliers. Pursuing higher performance, better combustion, stability, and simultaneous emission reduction according to continually revised emission limits for a diesel engine has piqued researchers’ attention.…”

“…This limitation provides an opportunity to exploit the advantages of different combustion characteristics like port fuel injection (PFI) of high-octane fuel, which can act as an alternative source of energy for the combustion, and direct injection of a high cetane fuel like Mahua biodiesel 4 may act as ignition source of energy in a CI engine operation. The recent development of LTC regimes such as Homogeneous Charged Compression Ignition (HCCI), Premixed Charged Compression Ignition (PCCI), Partially Premixed Compression Ignition (PPCI), 3 and Reactivity Controlled Compression Ignition (RCCI) provides the feasibility of utilizing the conventional diesel engine with minor modifications and harnessing the benefits of dual-fuel combustion. Previous studies 37 reported that a pair of fuels with a higher reactivity gradient achieved superior RCCI 38 combustion mode and significant dependence of performance and emission at the start of injection timing and fuel injection pressure, respectively, on RCCI mode combustion.…”
