Social psychology has long been concerned with social exclusion. Much of this interest has focused on people's negative intergroup attitudes and how these may be changed through individual‐level interventions. In this paper we explore a different level of intervention – one that targets the routine organisational practices that communicate who is welcome and able to draw on the organisation's services. Specifically, we investigate how a public‐facing organisation—a library service—engaged in a process of self‐reflection on its routine social practices with the aim of making people experiencing various forms of exclusion (e.g., job seekers, benefit claimants, ethnic minorities) more welcome. Our data arise from interviews (N = 19) with staff concerning their attempts to transform the practices that constitute the library as a distinctive public place. Throughout, we explore how they reflected on their everyday organisational practices, how these may unintentionally exclude, and how they could be modified to facilitate social inclusion. Moreover, we pay particular attention to our participants' understanding of the challenges involved in changing organisational culture and creating a social space in which diversity is accepted.

Pandemi COVID-19 telah membawa perubahan pada eksistensi dan relevansi sumber-sumber pembelajaran yang disediakan oleh perpustakaan perguruan tinggi, termasuk Perpustakaan Universitas Gadjah Mada (Perpustakaan UGM) sebagai pelayanan publik sivitas akademika di UGM. Perpustakaan UGM menerapkan ketentuan-ketentuan baru, model-model pelayanan baru, dan adanya pergeseran paradigma terhadap koleksi yang dilayankan, dari yang sebelumnya berbentuk tercetak menuju ke bentuk elektronik yang dapat diakses secara daring. Perubahan tersebut membawa pengaruh terhadap ketidaksiapan pemustaka dalam memanfaatkan layanan perpustakaan. Akibatnya, pemustaka menjadi tidak puas, tidak senang, tidak nyaman, dan mengeluh atas pelayanan yang diberikan. Tulisan ini menguraikan penanganan keluhan pemustaka terhadap layanan Perpustakaan UGM masa pandemi COVID-19. Berdasarkan uraian tersebut diperoleh gambaran penanganan keluhan pemustaka Perpustakaan UGM, meliputi: 1) media penyampaian keluhan, melalui media sosial, penyampaian secara langsung, dan kolom Aspirasi; 2) jenis keluhan berupa pembatasan waktu kunjungan luring, permintaan karya akhir, dan pemustaka dari luar UGM; 3) solusi atau penanganan keluhan, berupa sosialisasi ketentuan baru layanan Perpustakaan UGM, pemanfaatan aplikasi booking room, perpanjangan jam pelayanan, penambahan kuota pengunjung luring, dan menerima pengunjung luar UGM dan alumni; dan 4) tanggapan dan umpan balik atas solusi yang disampaikan.

“…En la literatura especializada se identifican algunos postulados que sirven de fundamento en relación con la base-columna teórica de este paradigma. Uno de ellos es el que admite que la biblioteca pública tiene una notable "responsabilidad social" en los diversos cuadrantes de la sociedad (Henri y Lee, 2007;Baker y Evans, 2011); otro es el referente al "compromiso social" que su personal bibliotecario contrae con la comunidad a la que atiende (Toledo de Araújo, 1985); y uno más es el inherente a la percepción que vislumbra a estos centros bibliotecarios públicos como catalizadores proactivos de "cambio social" (Pungitore, 1989;Haywood, 1997;Yilmaz, 2002;Mehra y Srinivasan, 2007). El autor analiza aspectos teóricos en torno a la relación "bibliotecas y sociedad". En concreto discute cuatro ideas fundamentales relacionadas con el paradigma sociológico de la biblioteca pública: 1) la biblioteca pública como institución social; 2) los postulados sociales de la biblioteca pública; 3) el ethos social de la biblioteca pública y 4) la biblioteca pública como constructora social de la comunidad. Así, se concluye que esta institución bibliotecaria contribuye a construir una mejor ciudadanía, es decir, una ciudadanía educada e informada con la finalidad de hacer funcionar mejor el Estado democrático.
