Lightweight and High‐Strength Design of an Excavator Bucket under Uncertain Loading

Abstract: This paper presents a methodology for lightweight and high-strength design of an excavator bucket under uncertain loading. Uncertain loads are obtained by using the Monte Carlo simulation based on the existing soil-bucket interaction model in which the soil parameters are variable. And the well-known 3-sigma methodology is used for the quantification of the uncertain loads. Excavator bucket modelling is finished by using ANSYS Parameter Design Language (APDL). A multiobjective optimization model aiming to decr… Show more

“…In [16], the methodology for creating a light and highstrength design of an excavator bucket under indefinite load is presented, obtained by Monte Carlo modeling based on the existing model of soil interaction with the bucket. Modeling of the excavator bucket using the ANSYS program allowed determining the directions of diminishing the maximum stress according to Mises and reducing the weight of the bucket.…”

“…Yao et al [16], by modifying angular parameters, reached 36.4% von Mises stress reduction. Yu et al [35] achieved 31.89% von Mises stress reduction by reducing the weight of the structure. As is shown in Figure 18, the object was more relaxed regarding the distribution of tensions.…”

“…On the other hand, there are other light weight tools, such as rods and hand-rake sweepers, which are used by part of the squad [3]. The latter are normally used by women to pile the olives that fall from the trees and facilitate their collection, preventing them from getting covered in dirt, which does not occur when carrying out this task using blowers [23].…”
