Linkage data on red cell acid phosphatase from family studies

Abstract: An analysis of the linkage relationships of red cell acid phosphatase (ACP1) with 36 other loci is presented. Close linkage is excluded for many loci. The hint of loose linkage with MNSs is not statistically significant, nor is it apparently consistent with the assignment of ACP1 and and MNSs to different arms of chromosome 2.

Genetic maps of chromosomes 2 and 4 constructed from pair-wise lod score data from family studies and regional assignments for markers are presented. Two loci are mapped on chromosome 2 and multiple crossing-over is suggested as an explanation for the poor fit to the data in females. The best map of chromosome 4 gives the genetic locations of five markers with the Stoltzfus (SF) blood group distal to MNS on the long arm and GC close to the centromere on the short arm. This position for GC is outside its provisional regional assignment and possible reasons for this discrepancy are discussed. The GM-PI linkage group has a score of less than -1.0 with chromosome 4 suggesting that it may be excluded from that chromosome. The regional assignment for markers on chromosome 2-5 are also shown.

Linkage analyses of locus pairs involving A C P l , Co, J k , K and K m indicate: probable linkage between Go and J k ( 8 = + 3.80 a t 4 = 0.29) ; possible linkage between J k and Km ( 2 = + 1-93 a t 8 = 0-30); a mild hint of linkage between Co and K ( 2 = + 1-01 at 8 = 0 3 0 ) ; inadequate information for Co : Krn linkage; inconclusive resultg for loose linkage between ACPl and Co ; absence of detectable linkage for K : J k , K : Km, ACPl J k , ACPl : K and ACPl : K m . The compiled information does not allow assignment of Co, Jk or K to chromosome 2.
