Linking people to coastal habitats: A meta-analysis of final ecosystem goods and services on the coast

Abstract: Coastal ecosystem goods and services (EGS) have steadily gained traction in the scientific literature over the last few decades, providing a wealth of information about underlying coastal habitat dependencies. This meta-analysis summarizes relationships between coastal habitats and final ecosystem goods and services (FEGS) users. Through a "weight of evidence" approach synthesizing information from published literature, we assessed habitat classes most relevant to coastal users. Approximately 2,800 coastal EGS… Show more

“…Прибрежные районы играют важную роль в адаптации экосистем, поскольку смягчают последствия климатических изменений, но демонстрируют высокую уязвимость к воздействию экологических изменений [6]. Кроме того, они обеспечивают экологические, экономические и социальные выгоды для значительной части проживающего там населения [7].…”

“…Few are host-generalists, and fewer still include human blood in their diet. With recent recognition that bedbugs represent models with which to study a breadth of both basic and applied questions [2,3], interest in the Cimicidae has escalated. Until now, what has been lacking has been a time-calibrated phylogeny with representation of species across multiple sub-families.…”

“…Coastal wetlands, including salt marshes, provide numerous ecological and economic benefits [1][2][3]. Salt marshes improve water quality and promote biodiversity by creating habitat and providing food for many species [4].…”

“…Coastal areas are one of the most attractive areas for urban residents based on strategic, cultural, economic, social or recreational reasons, and development benefits (Littles, Jackson, DeWitt, & Harwell, 2018;Mehvar, Filatova, Dastgheib, de Ruyter van Steveninck, & Ranasinghe, 2018;Sausner & Webster, 2016). Hence, coastal areas tend to have higher populations (Balica, SF;Wright, NG;van der Meulen, 2012), and a considerable population can potentially increase vulnerable communities (Adger, 1996).…”
