Liquid chromatography–electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry method for the determination of escitalopram in human plasma and its application in bioequivalence study

Abstract: A novel liquid chromatographic--electrospray ionisation mass spectrometric (LC--ESI-MS) method has been developed for the determination of escitalopram, an antidepressant in human plasma using paroxetine as internal standard. The method involved liquid--liquid extraction of the analyte from human plasma with a mixture of diethyl ether and dichloromethane (70:30, v/v). The chromatographic separation was achieved within 7.0 min by using 2.0 mM ammonium acetate (pH 5.0)--acetonitrile (54:46, v/v) as mobile phase … Show more

“…Escitalopram blocks the reuptake of serotonin at the serotonin reuptake pump of the neuronal membrane, enhancing the actions of serotonin on 5HT1A auto receptors 3 . Literature survey reveals several spectroscopic 4,5,6 , HPLC 7 and HPTLC of Escitalopram hydrobromide were transferred into a series of 10 mL standard flasks using a micro burette. To this, 1 mL of 5 mol L -1 HCl and bromate-bromide mixture (30 µg mL -1 in KBrO 3 ) were added.…”
