Literature Review: Health Impact of Coal Combustion Emissions in Power Plant on Adult Respiratory Systems

Abstract: Introduction: Coal-fired power plants contribute to air pollution emissions of nearly one-third of global SO2 , 14 % of NOx , and 5 % of PM2.5. This condition could worsen adults’ respiratory health who live close to power plants; WHO estimates that COPD and LRTI cause around 18% of premature deaths related to outdoor air pollution. This literature review aims to conduct a systematic review of the health impacts of coal-fired power plant emissions on adults’ respiratory systems and explore what risk factors le… Show more

“…The core activities of these companies, such as natural resource exploitation, processing, and distribution, have significant impacts on ecosystems and environmental quality. In fact, several studies and reference sources have underscored how important attention to environmental pollution by these energy companies (Balcombe et al, 2017;Lamma, 2021;Rachmat et al, 2021).…”

“…Several studies emphasize the energy sector's large role in greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global climate change (Naumenko-Dézes et al, 2022;Peters et al, 2020). In fact, coal companies are often major contributors to air pollution, with emissions of fine particulate matter, sulfur dioxide (SO 2 ), and nitrogen oxides (NOx) detrimental to air quality and human health (Cheng et al, 2014;Rachmat et al, 2021).…”

“…The standard penetrates all areas of life such as economy, culture, politics, and government. On the other hand, according to Rachmat et al (2021), development requires planning as a strategic process, to achieve goals and develop plans for organizational work activities, and the essence of national development is the development of the whole Indonesian people and the Indonesian people as a whole. This means that the development of the country includes everything be it entrepreneurship, education, health, clothing, housing, food, a sense of security and a sense of justice.…”
